Born in 1858, Edith Nesbit is best known for her many children’s books but also wrote eleven novels for adults, many short stories, poems and four collections of short stories of the supernatural, from which the ghost stories in this book are selected. 
    She lived an unconventional life, had a tempestuous first marriage and was a political activist and co-founder of the Fabian Society. 
    She died in 1924 at New Romney, in Kent.
